Greetings Highlands Church Family!
On behalf of our Staff Team and Leadership Council, I wish you a very Merry Christmas full of the contagious love of Christ. And I’m praying for you this week.
I pray you experience growth in your faith.
“Faith is what makes life bearable, with all its tragedies and ambiguities and sudden, startling joys.” Madeleine L’Engle wrote that. She also wrote A Wrinkle in Time and the sequels: A Wind in the Door and A Swiftly Tilting Planet. I return to her writing often, especially during Christmastime because she stirs my imagination and my faith.
In addition to faith, I pray that you have a moment of sudden, startling joy this week.
During the weeks before Christmas in 1972, the Morgan Family kids were disappointed by a drab-December, nothing-special-kind-of Christmas. Oh My Gosh! Our parents had been holding out on us.
They spent all night Christmas Eve wrapping presents, pulling the live Christmas Tree out of hiding, decorating said tree, putting up lights outside & inside, and basically converting our home into a beautiful, holy Christmas morning. When my siblings and I ran down the stairs at 5am that morning, we discovered our whole house had been transformed into a sparkling, magical wonderland. And Mom and Dad had fallen asleep on the floor. That moment of startling joy will stick with me forever.
So may you embrace your faith and delight in the startling joys. I am delighted and proud to be one of your pastors!
With love in Christ,
