Sermon Audio

In this sermon, we wrestle with the human propensity to find identity — both individual and tribal — in opposition to someone else or to another group. It seems easier to affirm whom or what we are against instead of whom or what we stand for, but perhaps this binary way of seeing the world only alienates us further, making any pursuit of justice ultimately partial and unjust. Jesus says that those who judge and condemn are like blind people leading other blind people into a pit, and we will look at this text as yet another invitation to self-awareness, so that we don’t perpetuate — even if inadvertently — the pain and injustice we’re trying to remove from our communities.
