Join Bob Bongiovanni and Millie Cline to explore the life of Harriett Tubman. On Thursday, September 17, the group will watch the film “Harriet” together at the church, with safety precautions in place. The remaining 3 sessions will involve a Zoom-based discussion of the book “She Came to Slay: The Life and Times of Harriet Tubman” by Erica Armstrong Dunbar. Session 1 will run from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The remaining 3 sessions will be from 7:00 – 8:30 PM.
The group will delve into the life of this inspiring American hero who lived from c.1822 – 1913. Born in slavery, Harriet Tubman escaped and subsequently made 13 perilous missions to rescue 70 enslaved people, including family and friends. Her broader efforts in support of the Underground Railroad helped liberate hundreds of enslaved men, women, and children. During the Civil War, she was the first woman to lead an armed expedition and she even spied for the Union Army. Late in life, she was a fierce suffragist and advocate for the aged. Through her story, we will discover our own courage to stand up for what is right, even when it seems that the odds of success are very low. Sign up here at the link below.
